App Redesign

Kiharu is an Atlanta-based ramen bar and Japanese Restaurant. We aimed to make ordering ramen accessible to more people via an app-based experience. We worked with the owners of this business to complete user testing and improve on their current web app design.

💢 What's the problem?

This small business is looking to increase convenience for customers in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The owners have seen that their app downloads have decreased steadily over time. Currently, the business has a mobile-unfriendly website. The owners hope to increase downloads and user return rates by allowing customers to easily browse the restaurant's menu and place orders from their mobile devices.

From the information gathered we created a general definition of the average customer and their pain points.

🗣️ Who is affected?

We interviewed a handful of restaurant patrons and asked the following questions:

Do you dine in or order takeout?
How do you order takeout?
Is the menu clear and easy to understand?
What do you think about ordering by phone?
What do you think about ordering through an app or website?

Findings and Personas

We Found that:

Users typically order via the app when they are pressed for time
Some interfaces were complicated and confusing
Users waiting for their meals were uncertain when orders were ready
Users were frustrated with the lack of customization options

👷 How Can We Address the Issue?

We started with paper iterations to quickly produce a handful of designs before moving to digital iterations. Our stakeholders provided a list of required features to base our designs around.

Adobe XD

Mid-Fidelity Prototyping

For the initial design, we included the following features:

A promotional banner
Restaurant menu quick view
A cart for checkout
Detailed Entree Descriptions
Collecting User Feedback

Usability Testing

With the basic features defined, we are conducting three rounds of usability testing and presented this initial design to stakeholders
